5-1/2 months

I’m pretty sure I’m falling behind on a great many things! But at least I’ve got a little video for you all…

We had a family and friend-filled Christmas this year.  We had a little Christmas Eve gathering at our house and then spent time at my folks’ house all day on Christmas.  Scott’s mom flew in from FL to spend the whole season with us too!  We opened gifts just among us at our house Christmas Eve, then did it again on Christmas morning with the whole family, and then again that afternoon when my uncle Paul arrived.  Chloe managed to sleep through each one!  But it was actually great because I feared she would be a basket-case having her daily rhythm so disturbed.  She got some great new toys, books, hats, and barrettes.  And we snapped about a million pictures because, of course, it was Chloe’s First Christmas!

4-1/2 months

Well, we are attempting to sleep train this sweet little girl and so here I am posting from bed as she cries it out. I think there is supposed to be a light at the end of this sleepless tunnel?

We’ve had a busy December so far with a visit from Auntie Audry and Uncle Jerry. We had such a great time with them and of course they got to hang out with Chloe. Now Grammy (Scott’s mom) is here through Christmas. Chloe took to her right away!

Chloe is sitting easily in her Bumbo chair now so I can put her up on the counter (away from the edge!) with me as I work in the kitchen. We have also just started putting her in her jumpy-swing. She doesn’t quite get it yet but she’ll sit in it for a few minutes and play with the toys.

I still totally crack up over these “photo shoots”. I’ve come to love the “bad” pictures because they really show Chloe as herself rather than a perfectly posed baby!

4 months!

Wow.  Not much extra time these days.  And to boot, I’ve come down with a head cold that I’m really hoping doesn’t get passed on to Chloe (or Scott, for that matter!)

So I’ll have to keep this quick while Chloe is temporarily occupied in her Bumbo seat…

Here’s a funny little video that totally cracked us up! Sorry, it’s a little dark.

Have you ever tried to take a picture of a baby?  It’s hard! They don’t stop moving, or smile when you ask them to.  And sometimes they get frustrated with being propped up “just-so”.  And then you smile and tickle them and they give you a big grin.  But then you stick this wierd-looking electronic piece of equipment in their face (the camera) and they look at you like you’re crazy. This is our most recent “photo shoot”…

Ha!! I love that look on her face!

In other news, Chloe is holding her head up pretty well on her own.  She bobbles a little bit still, but not much.  When we go out-and-about, we usually put her in our ring-sling.  She’s no longer content to face in like a newborn.  She now prefers to face out so she can see the world.  Today, Scott had her in the sling and it was funny to see peoples’ reactions!  She looks so much like him, and everyone smiles and comments on their likeness.  She’s like his “mini-me”.

We went to the Berkeley Farmer’s market this morning- the whole family!  We’ve been taking her to the Farmer’s market every week since she was 10 days old.  She’s smelled basil, and ripe tomatoes, dill, mint, garlic, peaches, and all the other yummy things we find.  And a couple weeks ago as we made bread, she smelled the yeast dough as we kneaded it.  We have lavender in the yard, so whenever we go outside she smells the lavender.

I’ve been back to work for a week-and-a-half now.  Scott is loving being home with her.  She’s started giggling too.  I woke up one morning to the sound of her laughing in the front room as they played patty-cake.  Wow!  What a great way to wake up!  Why don’t they make alarm clocks like that?

11 1/2 weeks

Whoa!  Life sure does go by quickly with a newborn!  I forgot to post a picture of Great Grama Brunsvold’s visit back in early September.  It was her first time seeing and holding Chloe.

Then, Auntie Jan came in October.  We had a great visit (brief but great!).  And she brought with her a ladybug Halloween costume for “the Goldenbug”.  It’ll be perfect for her next year! She also brought a Winnie the Pooh quilt with green edging that looks great in Chloe’s room.  I’ve already put it out a few times for Chloe to lay and play on.

And here’s a picture of Chloe, just out of the bath-I love those curls!

This is the quilt that Auntie Jan gave us.  Its nice and soft.

We took our first bath together last week too.  So much easier than wrenching my back leaning over the tub!! Here’s the only G-rated picture we took.

And holy, moly…look at the resemblance here!  Daddy’s girl, for sure!

And here are a couple videos of Chloe-they’re not the greatest because I’m not very good at holding the camera and talking to Chloe at the same time!

And this one is funny because she keeps making this funny face and rubbing her hands together like she’s scheming…

In other news, Chloe slept for 5-1/2 hours last night for the first time ever.  Ahhhhhh. I feel so rested today.  Of course, she did wake up every hour and a half after that- ha!  She seems to be going down in her bassinet more easily too.  She often grunts, snorts,  squeaks, and wiggles for a few minutes, then settles down and falls asleep.  But every morning at 5:30, she starts wiggling like crazy.  Not quite awake, but not quite sleeping either. (She’s usually in our bed by this time).  I often try to endure the wiggling for an hour or so, and then finally get up around 7:00 wondering why I tortured myself by trying to sleep next to the “wiggle-bug”.  (When she wiggles, she kicks me in the belly and flails her arms around, smacking me in the face…)  And this past week was really hot here, so I had her in jammies without feet in them.  So her sharp little toenails scratched the heck out of me as she kick-kick-kicked.

We’re gearing up for a busy week here.  Today is Sunday the 17th, and I go back to work on the 26th- next Tuesday.  In the meantime, Scott and I are spending all our spare moments preparing to cater a 50 person wedding on the 25th!  But we’ve got everything all planned out on a schedule so we can get everything done.  So far…all is well.  My mom will come with us to the wedding site and stay with Chloe all day long- a real treat (for both of them, I think!)

In all my time off, I’ve been lucky enough to be able to watch/listen to all the Yankee games.  We’re starting her young!  (Little does she know how close she came to being named after Mariano….Mariana?!)

Well, I guess that’s all the news from Lake Woebegone…where all the the women are strong, the men are good looking, and the children are above average.

This was actually taken somewhere around 6 weeks, but I just found it on my camera so I’m posting it now!
